Accredited Online Course

Learn how to assist adults who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.​

​

Mental Health First Aid provides a broad introduction to common mental health issues and teaches effective response and management methods.

​

Participants will become empowered and informed to help those around them maintain better mental well-being, leading to greater staff morale and creating more effective and sustainable workplaces, stronger interpersonal relationships, increased confidence in the ability to make a difference. 

Course Component 1

Self-paced interactive eLearning

Duration: 5 - 7 hours

 

Developing mental health problems covered:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety problems

  • Psychosis

  • Substance use problems

 

Mental health crises covered:

  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours

  • Non-suicidal self-injury

  • Panic events

  • Severe psychotic states

  • Severe alcohol/drug effects

  • Aggressive behaviour

Course Component 2

Instructor-led video conferencing

Duration: 2 x 2.5 hour sessions

 

Provides course participants with an opportunity to revise content covered in the self-paced eLearning program and to consolidate the application of this content with the development of practical skills in a group environment online.

 

  • Review eLearning content and the MHFA Action Plan framework

  • Apply the MHFA Action Plan to real scenarios

  • Discuss and reflect on potential applications of the skills acquired

  • Develop a personal self-care plan to maintain good mental health
